Norman Daoust Biography

As the principal consultant of Daoust Associates, Norman Daoust provides consulting services to organizations in areas including data modeling, UML modeling, requirements modeling, decision modeling, healthcare electronic data exchange, healthcare standards and interoperability. Norman is also a contract trainer in the Business Analysis curriculum for the Corporate Education Group, formerly the Boston University Corporate Education Center, an IIBA Endorsed Education Provider. His consulting clients include healthcare provider organizations, healthcare software vendors, government healthcare organizations, and a large international software company.

Prior to founding Daoust Associates, Norman Daoust was the modeling, standards, and Health Level Seven expert at Partners HealthCare Systems and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He also worked as a software developer for a national healthcare vendor (Siemens), a national consulting firm (Bradford National Corporation), and the state of Massachusetts. One of Norman's previous occupations was as a school teacher. He holds a B.S., cum laude, in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

In Health Level Seven (HL7), the international healthcare standards organization, Norman served as Secretary of the Technical Steering Committee from 2001 to 2007, and as the Modeling and Methodology Facilitator for the Patient Administration Committee from 1996 to 2011. He has been an active contributor to the Health Level Seven Reference Information Model (RIM), a comprehensive healthcare data model, since its inception. He also contributed to the requirements section of the Health Level Seven Developement Framework (HDF) and has a strong interest in promoting that framework's Domain Analysis Modeling process. In recognition of his contributions to HL7, he was bestowed their W. Ed Hammond, Ph.D. Volunteer of the Year award in 1998 and named one of the inaugural HL7 Fellows in 2010.

Norman served on the Board of Directors of the Boston Chapter of the Data Management Association International (DAMA) as Treasurer and Vice President of Education Services from 2003 to 2017 and served for seven years on the Board of Directors of the Greater Boston Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association (ICCA).

Norman Daoust is a frequent speaker at national conferences including The Data Modeling Zone, Software Development Best Practices Conference & Expo, Project Summit/Business Analyst World, DAMA International Symposium and Wilshire Meta-Data Conference, as well as at numerous regional events including more than a dozen chapter meetings of the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA) throughout the United States. He has won several humorous speech contests and holds the Competent Toastmaster certification from Toastmasters International. Norman is a frequent and engaging speaker who enjoys making complex topics easy and enjoyable. He has never been known to turn down a speaking or writing opportunity!
